Oracle Global Supply Chain Webcast Review

Trends in transportation and logistics

Oracle hosted an interesting webinar last week on the Strategic Supply Chain and discussed the state of the industry featuring Nikhil Parambath who covered trends in Asia Pacific and John Murphy who talked about what’s going on in North America.

It’s a fascinating 20 minutes, but If you don’t have time, here are some of my takeaways from the session:

  1. Parambath’s AsiaPac discussion centered on the diversity of the logistics industry that needs to serve both mature and emerging markets. The region accounts for approximately 50% of the world’s population but more importantly, the middle class is growing at a faster pace than any other area. This demographic is being targeted by major corporations, especially consumer products, which see an advantage to manufacturing products closer to their customers. This is causing a shift from a strictly export economy to a region that needs to expand to service their domestic market as well.
  2. Murphy believes that logistics analytics will play a growing role in supporting corporate decisions thus elevating the strategic perception of the supply chain organization. This information will support global sourcing decisions and supply network optimization on a more timely basis. Strategic analysis that is currently being done on an annual basis can now be performed more frequently as required by changing business conditions.

It’s well worth 20 minutes of your time to listen to the entire broadcast.
